Introduction

HR Specialists support GYSJ's global expansion by coordinating recruitment pipelines, conducting volunteer screenings, organizing smooth onboarding experiences, and fostering a collaborative, supportive community for our international volunteer team across Peer Review, Books, Technology, and Operations.

Your role and responsibilities

• Reviews incoming volunteer applications and conducts initial screenings across all department openings • Coordinates onboarding, access setup, and orientation for new editors, reviewers, designers, and staff • Maintains volunteer records, internal directories, and team communication channels • Supports volunteer engagement initiatives, team recognitions, and feedback surveys

Minimum Requirements

• Age 15+ with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Ability to work constructively and empathetically with volunteers from diverse backgrounds • Ability to commit 3–5 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous leadership or management experience in student clubs or non-profit organizations • Familiarity with collaborative tools like Slack, Notion, ATS portals, or Google Workspace • Interest in human resources, organizational leadership, or talent management
