Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about publishing your research with the Global Youth Science Journal.

How much does it cost to publish in GYSJ? +
Publishing in the Global Youth Science Journal is 100% free. As an open-access platform, standard publication charges zero article processing charges ($0 APC) and zero submission fees. We believe financial barriers should never prevent young scientists from sharing their research. For authors facing urgent academic deadlines, an optional pay-what-you-wish Fast-Track review service is available (which strictly accelerates review scheduling under an SLA and never influences editorial acceptance).
How does the single-blind peer review process work? +
Every submission undergoes a rigorous single-blind peer review. Our expert Editorial Board and external reviewers evaluate papers for scientific accuracy, originality, and robust methodology while maintaining reviewer anonymity to ensure objective and honest feedback.
Who is eligible to submit a research paper? +
High school students and undergraduate researchers globally can submit their original work. We accept research across STEM, social sciences, arts, and humanities. Check our Author Guidelines for specific formatting and eligibility requirements.
Where are GYSJ publications indexed? +
All accepted articles receive a persistent unique DOI via Zenodo to ensure permanent discoverability (with the option to upgrade to a Crossref DOI). Publications are discoverable on Google Scholar, archived via our OAI-PMH 2.0 metadata gateway (supporting Dublin Core and JATS XML), and cataloged in scholarly databases including OpenAlex and ResearchGate.
What is the timeline from submission to publication? +
Under our standard 100% free track, initial screening is completed within 1–2 weeks, and the full volunteer peer-review process typically takes 3–6 weeks. For authors with impending deadlines, our optional Fast-Track Review targets an initial decision in 5–7 days and final publication in 1–2 weeks backed by a strict SLA guarantee.
Does GYSJ offer an expedited or Fast-Track Review option? +
Yes. While regular review is completely free ($0 APC), authors with urgent academic deadlines (such as college admissions, scholarships, or conferences) can elect our Fast-Track Review Track when submitting. Fast-track papers receive priority reviewer assignment with a target decision time of 5 to 7 days and final publication within 1 to 2 weeks (with a full refund guarantee if the timeline is not met). Fast-tracking strictly expedites scheduling only; it has zero impact on the academic rigor or acceptance decision of peer review.
What formatting guidelines must my paper follow? +
All submissions must adhere strictly to our formatting rules, including specific margins, fonts, and citation styles (e.g., APA or MLA depending on the field). We highly recommend reviewing the detailed Author Guidelines and using our provided templates before submitting.
Do you accept review articles or only original research? +
GYSJ primarily focuses on original research that contributes new findings or novel analyses to the field. However, exceptionally well-researched comprehensive review articles are also considered. See our Call for Papers for current themes and acceptable submission types.
How can I join the Editorial Board or become a reviewer? +
We regularly recruit talented young researchers, educators, and professionals to join our team. If you're interested in evaluating cutting-edge youth research, please visit our Careers page, explore our Editorial Board, or view our Board Members section to learn about current openings and application processes.
Who funds and supports the Global Youth Science Journal? +
GYSJ is supported by a global network of academic partnerships, volunteer editors, and generous donors who believe in youth STEM education. For more details on our financial structure and how to support us, please visit Our Funding, our Partners, and our Contribution pages.
Is there a call for papers currently open? +
Yes, we accept submissions on a rolling basis, but we also have specific issue deadlines. To view current themes, deadlines, and submission requirements for the upcoming issue, please check the Call for Papers page.
What editorial and publishing standards does GYSJ follow? +
Global Youth Science Journal (GYSJ) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly publication. All accepted research papers receive permanent, verifiable Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) via Zenodo or Crossref preserved under our Digital Archiving Policy and Terms. We adhere to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, provide open OAI-PMH metadata harvesting, and publish under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0).
How does the peer review evaluation work at GYSJ? +
Manuscripts submitted to GYSJ undergo single-blind peer review in accordance with our documented Peer Review Process by qualified reviewers who evaluate scientific validity, methodology, originality, clarity, and ethical compliance. Editorial decisions are merit-based: papers may be accepted directly, returned for minor or major revisions, or declined if they do not satisfy scientific standards.
Who is the founder of Global Youth Science Journal? +
The Global Youth Science Journal was founded by Tuhin Sarkar (Lead Platform Architect & Organizer). You can learn more about his background, publications, and mission on our Our Founders page, or connect directly on LinkedIn.
What is GYSJ's international classification and indexing status (تصنيفها)? +
GYSJ operates an open-access repository compliant with international scholarly indexing protocols. We offer a standardized OAI-PMH 2.0 metadata gateway (OAI Endpoint), JATS XML exports, and full indexing integration with Google Scholar, ResearchGate, OpenAlex, Zenodo, and Dublin Core bibliographic registries.
Can middle school students submit research or is it high school only? +
Middle school, high school/secondary school, and early undergraduate students worldwide are actively encouraged to submit their work. We celebrate young researchers across STEM disciplines, including environmental science, biomedical science, computer science & AI, behavioral psychology, and applied physics.
Where are GYSJ headquarters located (City and Postal Code)? +
GYSJ operates globally with central editorial headquarters in New Delhi, India (PIN / Postal Code: 110001) and regional representation in Osaka, Japan (Postal Code: 530-0001), supported by an international network of reviewers across 30+ countries. See our Contact Us page and explore our Global Locations for full details.
How can I join the GYSJ staff or editorial board? +
We regularly recruit volunteer student editors, peer reviewers, and Student Ambassadors as well as community Volunteers. If you are passionate about youth science and want to gain editorial leadership experience, check open positions on our Careers portal.
Where can I find all author guidelines and formatting templates? +
Detailed formatting standards, downloadable Word manuscript templates, Chicago citation rules, and ethical disclosure policies are all available on our Author Guidelines page.
Where can high school and undergraduate students publish original research? +
Students can explore dedicated peer-reviewed youth journals depending on their grade level and field, including Journal of Emerging Investigators (JEI) for middle/high school STEM, Journal of Young Investigators (JYI) for undergraduates, and Global Youth Science Journal (GYSJ) for middle school, high school, and undergraduate authors (see our latest Journal Issues and Published Papers). GYSJ offers 100% free ($0 APC) publishing with permanent DOIs and Google Scholar indexing.
Does publishing a research paper help with college applications and Ivy League admissions? +
Publishing an original research paper in a peer-reviewed journal with a verifiable DOI demonstrates intellectual vitality, independent research capability, and academic commitment. Admissions officers at selective universities value verified, peer-reviewed independent scholarship.
What is GYSJ's publication fee policy? +
GYSJ operates on a 100% free open-access model with zero mandatory Article Processing Charges ($0 APC) or submission fees. We believe financial constraints should never prevent young scholars from publishing peer-reviewed research.
